Help create better access to hearing, language and education for children in Laos.
January 2027
A multidisciplinary mission in Luang Prabang.
In January 2027, a multidisciplinary team of medical, education and communication specialists will travel to Luang Prabang to work alongside Lao partners, families, teachers and Deaf community members.
The mission brings together ENT, audiology, speech pathology, paediatrics, Deaf education, sign language, literacy and community partnership expertise. Its focus is practical and collaborative: identifying children who may benefit from hearing support, connecting families with clear information, and building resources that can continue to support communication and learning beyond the mission itself.
Why this mission matters
Access changes what becomes possible.
For Deaf and hard of hearing children, access to hearing care, sign language, communication support and early learning opportunities can shape confidence, relationships and school participation.
This mission is not only about equipment. It is about listening carefully, working respectfully with local knowledge, and strengthening the network of people around each child.
The shared approach
Identify. Connect. Build.
Identify children who may benefit from hearing assessment, hearing aids, communication support or further referral.
Connect children, families, teachers and professionals so information and support can move between home, school and clinical settings.
Build practical resources, relationships and follow-up pathways that help the project grow beyond a single visit.
One child. A whole team.
Support surrounds each child.
Every child’s pathway depends on more than one person. Families, teachers, Deaf adults, interpreters, health professionals and community partners all bring something important.
The January 2027 mission is being shaped around that whole-team approach, with Lao and international partners working together to strengthen communication, hearing, language and learning opportunities.
What your support makes possible
Medical equipment and hearing aids.
PEMM is raising funds for the medical equipment required for the mission, particularly hearing aids and the clinical materials needed to fit and support them appropriately.
Funds raised through PEMM and HelloAsso support this medical equipment pathway. Donated iPads, Focus Matters educational resources and Australian school-based contributions are separate forms of support for the broader mission.
More than one kind of support
Many contributions strengthen the project.
Support for the mission is already taking many forms: technology and iPads for learning, educational resources, Deaf community connections, signed video resources, professional expertise and partnerships across Laos, France and Australia.
Each contribution adds to the practical network of support around the children and the Luang Prabang School for the Deaf.
You can help
Donate through PEMM.
Your support can help PEMM provide the hearing aids and medical equipment needed for the January 2027 mission.
Donations are managed by PEMM through HelloAsso in France. The donation page is in French.
If you are not able to donate, sharing the mission with friends, schools, community organisations and professional networks is also a meaningful way to help.
Every child deserves the opportunity to communicate, learn and belong.
This mission is being built through collaboration between Lao and international professionals, teachers, families, Deaf communities, schools and supporters.
